2021 Environmental Dance Festival in LĪGATNE

More than 200 spectators enjoyed environmental dance performances in Līgatne at the beginning of August as part of the International Contemporary Dance Festival VIDES DEJA. The audience experienced three different travel routes and six new environmental dance productions in the Līgatne area.

VIDES DEJA is an annual traveling event that has been searching for unique performance sites in Latvia for more than ten years to introduce audiences to contemporary environmental dance works.

The festival offered ENVIRONMENTAL DANCE PERFORMANCE TRAILS.
Traveling by boats, bicycles, or on foot, visitors covered the route, observed, and influenced what was happening. The exciting program included six environmental dance performances.

Performances

Femina (57.252470, 25.044553)

  • Choreography - Sabīne Neilande
  • Director - Naubertas Jasinskas
  • Dancer - Laura Gorodko
  • Scenography - Līga Žebele
  • Music - Līva Dumpe

A contemporary dance performance based on the standards, opinions, and stereotypes of past and present society, reflecting on women and defining what their daily life, interests, and appearance should be. Confronted with these opinions, women experience a sense of duality in their thoughts and actions, making it difficult to find their own identity.

Balance (57.25272962783168, 25.06062819827932)

  • Choreography: Nauris Miķelis Goba, Aigars Larionovs
  • Dancers: Nauris Miķelis Goba, Aigars Larionovs
  • Music: Jan Jelinek, Asuna

Balance is dynamic, not static. The performance examines a constantly changing process that, as time goes by, continually redefines itself. What once seemed fair may now be exploitation.

Survival (57.252106, 25.050262)

  • Choreography - Katrīna Albuže
  • Dancers: Roberta Gailīte, Edvards Kurmiņš
  • Dramaturgy - Tatjana Mežehova
  • Music and actor - Dzintars Lipors

It flows, changes, moves forward... and stands still, stops, moves backward. As a real or apparent limitation of space and distance resonates within the person and in relationships with others.

First Flight (57.251580, 25.046100)

  • Choreography - Arina Buboviča
  • Dancers: Ksenija Simonova, Glorija Špisa
  • Music - Glorija Špisa (drummer)

The concept of the performance is based on observations, the ability to notice, to feel connections, to transform them into movement, to mark them with "colors", to interpret them with sounds. Sometimes, to notice new and unusual connections and to feel a link with new objects and phenomena, one must pause and freeze for a moment. Let the spirit fly away, descend from the ground, so that after a while you return with the understanding of how strong this or that connection is.

Sync (57.253407, 25.051143)

  • Choreography - Līva Apšeniece
  • Dancers - Ramona Levane, Kitija Geidāne

The contemporary dance performance 'SYNC' tells the story of the synchronicity of two bodies' movements and accidental coincidences, emphasizing the collaboration of form and movement sensations, creating a single existence.

  • Choreography: Madara Luīze Muzikante, Guna Briža
  • Dancers: Marta Andrukoviča, Agute Klints, Madara Auziņa, Elizabete Liepiņa, Anete Ieva Daugule, Laura Godiņa, Edgars Lipors
